Enriched Air Nitrox Diver

10 November 2010 No Comment

Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx) is nothing more than normal air with oxygen added to reduce the concentration of nitrogen. The additional oxygen offers no benefit and can, in fact, pose additional risk at depth. Nevertheless, breathing less nitrogen provides several benefits, including:

  • Longer no-deco limits and shorter surface intervals.
  • Reduced risk of decompression illness compared to making the same dives on air.

Modern dive computer are capable of tracking exposure to both air and Nitrox. It makes sense to take ful advantage of this capability.

Among the many things you will learn as part of this program:

  • Enriched Air Nitrox: The advantages and drawbacks.
  • Equipment for diving EANx.
  • Using standard dive tables with Nitrox.
  • Managing oxygen exposure.
  • Analyzing EANx cylinders.
  • EANx and diving emergencies.

This course is open to divers who are:

  • At least 15 years old.
  • Certified to the Open Water Diver level or equivalent.
  • Able to either answer No to all questions on the standard Medical History form or secure a physician’s approval prior to the start of class.

With PADI eLearning, it is now possible to complete most of this course entirely on line. Once you have completed the on-line portion, you spend roughly an hour in the store reviewing fundamental knowledge and practicing gas analysis. There is no mandatory in-water training.
